I Love Red

I love....

At Bento Blog Network, the theme for this week is red.  I love the color red...and I love to celebrate Valentine's Day...and the two just go so well together!  :)

  • scalloped heart-shaped sandwich, peanut butter and seedless red raspberry jam, with edible glitter sprinkled on top
  • red tortilla chips
  • strawberry applesauce with heart pick
  • fresh cranberries in heart muffin liner
  • heart-shaped sugar cookie with pink icing and micro heart sprinkles
  • milk with strawberry syrup in heart cup

T told me, "Pink milk."  I think he was surprised that milk could be pink.  However, after taking three sips, he told me, "White milk."  He was rejecting the strawberry-flavored milk!  :(

T doesn't look all that pleased in this photo, but he kept telling me over and over, "Thank you, Mama.  Thank you, Mama."

It has been said that French is the language of love.

Here are step-by-step instructions to teach you how to say I love you in French.
  1. Find the person you love.
  2. Say his name.
  3. Say je t'aime:
j in je is pronounced [zh] like the g in mirage
e is pronounced like the oo in good
t'aime is pronounced [tem] to rhyme with them.

T, je t'aime!

Evergreen Trees

At Bento Blog Network, the theme for this week is green.

T's lunch today consisted of:
  • turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich cut into tree shape and topped with baby spinach
  • green tortilla chips
  • celery sticks and Ranch dip in tiny green cup
  • green grapes with 3-D tree pick
  • green tree-shaped marshmallows
  • limeade with one drop of green food color (because I discovered that limeade isn't green!)

According to Wikipedia, "Green is restful to the eye.  Studies show that a green environment can reduce fatigue."

Green Eggs and Ham

Do you like green eggs and ham?

I do not like them, Sam-I-am.
I do not like green eggs and ham.

~from Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

After we read the book Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss, T had the following muffin tin meal.

  • green eggs (Stouffer's Spinach Soufflé)
  • ham (Canadian bacon)
  • green grapes with Cat in the Hat pick
  • toast with cinnamon-sugar and edible green glitter
  • sliced kiwi

Okay, so T wouldn't even try the spinach soufflé.  He took it off of his plate out of his muffin tin and said, "Yuck!"  I did find humor in that, only because he's never, ever said the word yuck about anything (food or otherwise).  Also, overall, he's not very verbal...but he said his yuck clearly, expressively, and emphatically!  ;o)

Orange for Breakfast

T had orange for breakfast today.

  • orange tangerine juice
  • hearty white toast with orange marmalade
  • pumpkin muffin with streusel topping
  • whole wheat toast with cheddar cheese
  • mandarin oranges with orange pick
  • mango yogurt

BTW, T does own more than one shirt.  (I just realized that he's wearing the same shirt as in the photos of his Clemson orange meal.  Ooops!  ~Should I mention that he did eat these meals on two different days...and the shirt was washed between wearings?  Hahaha.)

Go, Orange!

My husband graduated from Clemson, and my nephew will be graduating from Clemson in May.  So...you know that when I discovered the Bento Blog Network theme for this week is orange, my first thought was...Clemson!  :P

  • peanut butter and jelly football-shaped sandwich on a honey wheat Sandwich Thins roll
  • Cheez-It crackers
  • baby cut carrots with Ranch dressing
  • orange juice
  • sugar cookies with orange icing and various orange and purple sprinkles
  • peaches on football picks

No, his finger is not dirty.  It's from the sandwich....As soon as T saw it, he said "Off" (meaning the chocolate décor).

"Orange" you glad...
  • it's Friday;
  • for family;
  • Jesus loves you;
  • for a fun meal?

My Sunshine

You Are My Sunshine (aka The Sunshine Song)*

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please, don't take my sunshine away.

I often sang that song to T when he was a baby.

The challenge this week at Bento Blog Network is to create a meal with a yellow theme.

T had a "sunshine" breakfast today, which was a perfect meal for a morning with an overcast sky.

  • scrambled fried egg, cut with circle cutter (eyes and smile cut with smaller circle cutter), and cheese cut into strips on a flour tortilla
  • pineapple chunks
  • applesauce with yellow nonpareils
  • orange pineapple apple juice

The first thing he did was remove the breakfast burrito from his muffin tin.  :(
He liked the fruit, though!

(BTW...I sang to T, but he didn't seem to appreciate my effort.)

*Here's your history lesson for the day:

The song, You Are My Sunshine, was written by Oliver Hood, member of The Rice Brothers Gang, and recorded by the group in 1939.

However, Jimmie Davis is the credited songwriter.  He bought the song and rights from Paul Rice and put his own name on it, a practice not uncommon in the pre-World War II music business.  Jimmie Davis recorded the song in 1940.

You Are My Sunshine has been declared the state song of Louisiana as a result of its association with Jimmie Davis, former state governor and country music singer.

*Information from Wikipedia.

Bento Blog Network Award

A huge Thank You to everyone who voted on Bento Blog Network for T's Happy New Year Meal.  I am so amazed!  Of course, there were only four entries, so I guess that gave us a 25% chance of receiving the most votes??  LOL!  Nonetheless, I'm quite happy!  :o)

Now I need to see if Diana will help me figure out how to display the special blog button!  ;o)
